Deploying to Iraq has changed and shaped what I have become today. I have come to hold dear many things that I have taken for granted. The things I experienced first hand really brought into perspective the horrors of war and how gold I was to live in an amazing country.
Traveling to a country and experiencing a new culture was very nitty-gritty opening for me. Having to learn about there religion and custom was a great insight into there culture. I put it a very educational experience for me. My job compulsory me to play an active role in the local organization so I needed to know how to interact with the townships people without insulting them. The biggest challenge was creating a indestructible relationship so we could trust each other and eventually make things right before we leave the country.
The loss of luxuries was preferably a shock to me. Many things I took for granted I had to do without for the duration of my deployment. It was very difficult to overcome the occurrence I didnt have any running peeing. No showers, I had to use baby wipes to race myself. I had to wash my clothes by hand with bottled water in a pail, which means you want to use very little water because its your drinking water too. No air teach during the summer months.
I fatigued nights sleeping in a tent, my vehicle, and some ages in a bombed out building. I spent many nights thinking about how nice I had it book binding home.
I hadnt really dealt with death until Iraq. I lost my first friend in the 2nd week in was in country. It really put into perspective that I precisely might not come home. Initially I was horrified of dying. It made it very stressful and very difficult to go out and do my job but as time went by, I learned to focus my energy on terminate the mission and getting everybody back alive. I just couldnt worry about weather or not I was going to make it home.
