The year is 1860, and the Presidential election held this year was evoke and yet filled with national tragedy. There were 3 Parties; Republican, Democratic, and thorough federation. The Republican party put forward Abraham Lincoln, the Democratic party nominated Stephen Douglas in the North and John Breckinridge in the South, and the Constitutional Union nominated John Bell. The Republicans opposed slavery in their territories, exactly agreed to allow slavery in the South. The Democratic Party was separate between the North and the South on the do it of Slavery. In the end, Stephen Douglas was declared an official nominee of the Democratic Party. Now, the dry wash for the Presidency of the United States was clearly dependent on the bang of slavery which had al evincey divided the nation in half.
Abraham Lincoln, a Republican nominee from Kentucky won the election. Lincoln grew up in a humble log cabin and came from a poor family. Even though Lincoln was poor and did not contrive a formal education, he made extraordinary efforts to pip knowledge while working on a farm, and taught himself to read and write. When Lincoln grew up, his efforts were rewarded and served one term in the House of Representatives.
Although he lost 2 attempts for the Senate seat, he became well known for speeches and connected well with the people which eventually led to his mastery for the Presidency. However, his victory was filled with tragedy because the country split apart.
After Lincoln became President, South Carolina broke away from the country and six more states seceded from the Union; Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. These states called themselves the Confederate States of America and elected Jefferson Davis as their President. In June of 1860, Virginia, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Tennessee joined the Confederate States of America.
