The training down here is harsh.
We get to sleep recently and wake up very early. On a good day we might get a little slice more rest than usual but this only happens on rare occasions.
Life in the trenches is harsh. The walls keep falling in on us, so we must put them back us with the little material that we have in order to keep safe and able to fight. Here we use mud, stones and wood. The constant shellfire direct by the enemy brought random death, whether their victims were lounging in a trench or lying in a pirogue.
