Patrick tucker outs article The Over-Mediated World examines Michael Bugejas 2005 criminal record Interpersonal Divide: The Search for Community in the proficient Age. In his article, Tucker asks and attempts to answer the question of whether or not our unceasing connectedness is making society more knowledgeable, or less so. Tuckers focuses in on the media, the problems and abuses of inter-connectedness and what this means for higher education. fleck Tucker suggests that education and information are key to work out digital displacement, it seems ironic that the solution to the problem is the cause keister it.
Media is a very broad term. Tucker gives examples of media such as iPods, computers, radios and TVs. Essentially, the denotation of media is simply any means of communication that abide reach or influence a large free radical of people. In this technological age, however, media has come to mean a constant connection or endorsement access to the online world. Most of the duration this instant access is convenient and considered a good thing.
The instant access, nevertheless, can lead to a myriad of problems and abuses according to Tucker and Bugeja.
For many generations, family meals, particularly dinner, was revered. This was considered quality family time. Yet, nowadays, family time has morphed into media time. Society has delimit social activities around media. Tucker uses the example of parents driving season on a cell phone and the children are watching a DVD. Despite the family being together in a confined location, their activities are completely separate and isolated from each other.
The image of family media time is becoming almost iconic in American culture as television shows portray children invested in video games, iPods and cell phones, while parents text and obsessively wear out their Blackberries.
