To gain respect, one must also give the respect. be open-minded is an important aspect of respect. Listen to what others have to say, and take each statement into consideration. A tool I hire to listen to others is assimilation. I assimilate into my audience or group, so that I can get the perspectives from sides, their perspective and my own.
