Q. Consumer Society gives large number choice. Discuss Over the last 30 years we have seen a shift from an industrial familiarity, where we are define by the job we have and the class divisions this creates, to a consumer society. By a consumer society I am referring to a society where battalion are defined by the goods and services they buy. In this society unsloped like an industrial one there are divisions which create inequalities but it is not as open as just rich and poor. In this essay I will show whether we have more or slight choice within a consumer society and show around of the inequalities it can create as well as trace on the sustainability of such a society. I will amaze by discussing some key social scientists views on a consumer society and then show how the supermarkets have shaped the UK markets and whether they twist us more or less choice. The average UK home base now spends more on luxury items such as recreation and culture than it does on essentials such as provender and drink (ONS cited Hetherington , 2009, page 24).
